Maths - geometry

We have been learning about shapes and position words. Position words tell us where something is or where it is going. 

We use words like: On the cushion, on the mat, In front, behind, the back of the class, around, under, beside, between, middle, on top, in, through, out, off. 
We have also learned about turns and can make full and half turns. Quarter turns were new for us and can be tricky.

Task: Pick a picture of the blocks in a pattern (dont show your buddy). Using our maths words describe how to make the pattern. Remember to give accurate clear instructions.

Success Criteria:
  • I use the correct names for shapes

  • I  give clear instructions about position
  • I follow postion instructions

Reflection

I can: tell my buddy where to put the shapes.

It was hard when: to put the shapes on the right side.

I really liked: playing Simon says outside to help practise my words.

Jack you have worked really hard to learn and use the maths position words. You can give instructions to your buddy about where to put the shape so they can match the pattern. Remember to keep using your position words with your buddy and give lots of instructions so the shapes are on the correct size.
I am pleased you enjoyed Simon Says and learning in the playground. When learning is fun we are more successful.

Whakawhanaungatanga,



We have been learning all about whakawhanaungatanga and what it means. We think it is all about getting along better, including everybody and being in a team.

When we are showing Whakawhanaungatanga we will :

 
See:  people sharing and noticing other people

Hear:  kind words, encouraging words like "ka pai", "good job”, “can I help?"

Think about: about other people, listen and share.


Task: Listen to your buddy and learn some things about them. Work together to create a poster sharing what you have learned about each other. Remember to practise using encouraging words, to share ideas and to notice how you your buddy might be feeling. 

 Success Criteria:

  • I shared my ideas with my buddy.
  • I show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the playground.

I show whakawhanaungatanga when: Playing with my friends because then if I show whakawhanaungatanga, I can play with them.

It was hard when: I am angry because when i am not showing whakawhanaungatanga I could get hurt.


I really liked: Showing Whakawhanaungatanga to my friends because if you don't show whakawhanaungatanga you won't have any friends.

Jack you are a kind young man and you show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the classroom. You use kind words and notice how other people are feeling. It can be tricky to show whakawhanaungatanga when you are feeling sad or angry. Remember to take a breath and have a quiet moment to think about what is the best thing to do.

When I grow up

When I grow up I want to be a scientist because I have a treehut and it has some potions in it. My favourite thing at school is listen to reading.

 

Listen to reading is a great activity to help you with your reading and I love that you choose it during i-time. Making potions can be great fun!
